As an enabler of innovations and new discoveries, eResearch has the potential to boost research effectiveness through increased interaction between researchers, increased access to data and enhanced access to research outputs. Research findings that chart, understand and facilitate the transformation of practice through eResearch and digital innovation are important for policy makers, across disciplines and industries. A/Professor Helen Thompson conducts eResearch which harnesses the power of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) for research and practice change. Characterised by collaboration and facilitated by fast, high-capacity networks her eResearch activities are diverse and multi-disciplinary and have application across all disciplines. She has a particular focus on the economic and social development of regional and rural communities and industries.

Federation University Australia is a major participant in the Food Agility and Soil CRCs and if 19th CRC selection round applications are funded will also be engaged in the Digital Health and Farming Smarter CRCs. I am looking forward to meeting other participants in these CRCs. I would also like to connect with researchers, government and industry representatives who are interested in increased access to data as an enabler of innovation and new discoveries.

I lead the Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) at Federation University Australia. CeRDI is a global leader in data interoperability and has developed many award-winning web-based spans thematic areas including the natural environment, agriculture, hazards planning and resilience, health and wellbeing, heritage and culture and regional development.

We have policy responsibility for Growth Centres (including objectives around increasing collaboration and commercialisation; and improving access to global supply chains and international opportunities for industry), and we are on the secretariat for the University Precincts Advisory Committee.
